"We've been with State Farm in different cities for as long as we can remember. (and we've been married 55 years). Have we done some comparison shopping in that time? Sure - all the popular wisdom "out there" says we should. But, when we compared apples to apples, we stayed with S.F. The last visit with Lauren, as we prepared for retirement, we were looking for ways we could trim out payments in home and/auto. As our son is an attorney, it wound up be our choice to actually BOOST some of our auto coverage, as we live in one of the most litigious states in the country. We made sure that with rising prices for materials and labor, that our dwelling insurance would amply cover our needs - should that arise. Lauren did help find a couple ways to REDUCE our auto coverage costs by doing a few things: my car now has less than 5,000 miles put on it each year. BINGO - nice savings without compromising one thing! We agree to put one of those monitors inside our windshield. "Big Brother" watching? No - it DOES make us more conscious of our speed, and this will turn into $$$ savings through the ensuring months. The NEATEST thing we did was commit to taking an on time, in your own time, Defensive Driving Academy. True - it takes 6 hours if you're not going to "cheat". But ... if you do .. you're really only cheating YOURSELF! As we prepare to set off on a 30 day, 7,500 mile driving trip - our timing was spot on. It DID make me aware of some of the things I've either grown to take for granted . . . or just gotten lazy about. That was a month ago and both of us are still talking about incidents where that course helped us in our real life circumstances. Oh, yeah - it looks to save us about $480.00 on both our policies over the next 3 years!
